Sheesh (another question)
August 28th, 2008On a random whim I was going back through the Bug & Worm archive and I realized a whole lot of Bug & Worm’s just aren’t really that funny/entertaining. There are some that still make me laugh, even if it’s just from a character’s pixel expression, but most just make me say ‘meh.’ I am very seriously considering going back through the archive and removing all of those (numerous) duds. Also, I really need to step up my work from now on.
My question to you is this: do you all think I should get rid of the duds, or should I leave them all there in the archive? And if I were to remove them, which ones are your favorites that you’d like to see stay? Here are a few of the more recent ones I know I would keep:
B & W #119
B & W #114
B & W #107 (I really like this one. I’m a dork)
B & W #106
B & W #103
B & W #102
B & W #93
B & W #92
B & W #87 (I basically just like the sheep laughing)
That’s as far as I’ve gotten. If you all add some more to the list, I may look into doing a very small/short little “Best of Bug & Worm” type book. Although, I do still feel like I’m a bit too small of an operation to try and sell things. I’m coming to the realization that, while I’m happy to keep putting these up for you all who keep coming back, Bug & Worm will never really be taking off.

As a reader, I’d prefer that you didn’t cull the archive; it’s fun to go back through the archives of my favorite authors and see how much they’ve grown. The ones that start pulling their own work usually develop a terminal case of Webcomic Drama Plague, and I’d hate to see that happen to you.
I suppose you want new readers to see strips that represent your best work, instead of slogging through the “meh” entries. To that end, I think that having a “best of” collection, as a feature on the web site here, is a good idea. Think of it like a “free tour” section, except of course that you don’t have to pay for the rest of the site either…. hmm.

Please don’t delete them! They’re funny, in a character-based way!

I have to say this: PLEASE don’t get rid of any comics. Even if you don’t find them funny, someone else might.

Okay, you’re all right. I shouldn’t be removing strips from the archive. I’ll just make sure I try harder to make funnier stuff. And I think I will take Jeremiah’s advice and try and create some sort of “best of” set of strips for new readers. Do you all have any suggestions for what stips you’d like to see in the “best of?”

Definately the robot cookies one. You’re not a dork. Because that would make me a dork.

Dork by association, eh?
