The Calendar 2009

November 18th, 2008

I’ve mentioned this a few times before on various blogs and message boards and stuff, but I’ll mention it again here: each year since we were around 5 and 3, my brother and I have created a calendar as an Xmas gift to our families. Now that I’m married and have two daughters, they help make it, too. We’ve done all kinds of themes and weird concepts and such, like illustrating poems they’ve picked out, taking a sketch by each of them and turning it into a bigger picture, etc. This year, my wife and two daughters each made up 4 quick, simple stories or scenarios and my brother and I have to draw them.

The reason I’m mentioning this is we’ve got to get these things done soon so we can get them printed and ready to send out for Xmas. That means I need to work on these 6 pictures instead of Bug & Worm this week. What I’ll do to hold you over, though, is post each calendar picture here when I’ve finished them. Here’s the first one I finished today (you’ll need to click on it to see it full size):

VERY nice! How did you get the textured and 3-d effects?

Oh, and in response to the B&W that is up right now: the sky looked exactly that color today.

Thanks! I drew it all in Illustrator, then used Photoshop to add the textures from photos and add the drop shadows and such.
